I'm a Tel-Aviv-based violinist and composer. My specialty is klezmer fiddle but I'm also interested in other kinds of Eastern European music, Middle-Eastern music, jazz, and Western classical music. A new piece for 8-string violin. This violin was a gift from Edward Hagen, z"l, who made a lot of unique and fantastic string instruments. It was originally strung with double strings, but I have it strung in octaves except for the highest course. Set up by Yuval Aderet. Wonderful music, a violin - film with social sense and sensitivity, but a little bit memory for traditional klezmorim is not enough
OK wow. I literally just had the thought, 'I wonder if they make 8 string violins the same way they make 12 string violins.' I guess this answers my question. Now, I love 12 string guitars because they have a haunting quality you just don't get from a 6 string and it seems its the same from violins. That sounds like a totally different instrument. (in a good way)
